GetLeaflets for iPhone

Blue Flavor have released GetLeaflets – a web-based access point to services like Upcoming, Flickr, del.icio.us and a bunch of search engines.Regular browsers can view screenshots on the link above, and those with Safari 3 can check it live.

Of interest – it’s for Safari 3 only – you will get an “upgrade your browser” message. Why? CSS3, and specialising Ajax for different browsers is gnarly.

Brian Fling of BF has been responding to criticism of the iPhone only approach by stating the obvious [nabbed from mobiledesign Yahoo Groups email thread]:

“The big advantage to Safari on the iPhone is CSS3 support, which
allows developers to do a lot with the design with relatively little
markup, keeping the overall page weight reasonable over EDGE.”

“Yes, our intent is to support more browsers not just Safari on the
iPhone. The problem isn’t web standards rather the how mobile
browsers render them and device Javascript support.”

Both comments suggest an understandable approach – build a good service for a great platform that supports standards, and let the other device, browser etc manufacturers catchup.
