Scott Rafer from Winksite doesn’t see the end of the mobile web looming
Despite being an ‘Apple fanboy’, Rafer doesn’t see the iPhone killing the ‘mobile web’:
Even if the iPhone were an effective broadband internet browsing device, which it isn’t, there’s maybe a million of them out there. A billion iPhone-equivalents is many years away. >>
Vidya Lakshmipathy, however, is putting the smack down:
Stripped-down sites crammed onto the small screens of devices meant for phoning, not browsing, will become a thing of the past. Companies looking to stay on top of this trend should get iPhones and experience their capabilities for themselves. Going forward, firms should continue to experiment with the mobile Web sites they own today in order to learn how to create content that is timely, location-aware, and actionable for users on the go. >>
Going forward, wouldn’t continuing to experiment with, or even improve upon, existing mobile web sites with content and interactions that are timely, location-aware etc. be a development of the mobile web?
